Made in Bremen

Bremen combines Hanseatic tradition with forward-looking innovation and is the perfect location for your event.

Bremen is internationally well connected and compact – short distances lead to countless (tourist) highlights. Whether high-tech in the Technology Park, maritime ambience on the Weser or art, culture and kitsch in the Schnoorviertel – Bremen offers diversity in a small space. First-class gastronomy, from Michelin-starred cuisine to street food, as well as renowned science and business locations make the Hanseatic city a hotspot for successful congresses. Let yourself be inspired…

Culinary delights in Bremen

Nobody needs to go hungry in Bremen: from an honest bratwurst to an elaborate 5-course meal, you will find everything your heart desires in Bremen. How about a little bit of Hanseatic tradition in Bremen’s Ratskeller, where you can enjoy exquisite German wines and regional specialities? Or would you prefer sweet temptations at Café Knigge, which has been delighting visitors with the finest confectionery for generations?

As a cosmopolitan Hanseatic city, the cuisines of the world are of course also well represented here. Those who like it colourful and lively will love Markthalle 8, for example – here you can find fresh, creative street food from all over the world.

At Moms in Bremen’s Viertel district the name says it all: The owners’ mothers are behind the cooker and serve homemade Turkish specialities of the highest quality. You can also enjoy excellent food in the truest sense of the word at ‘Due Fratelli’ directly on the market square. The Italian restaurant has just been honoured with a black toque by the ‘Gault&Millau’ restaurant guide.

No matter what you fancy – Bremen will serve it to you!

Economy in Bremen

Airbus Group, Rheinmetall Defence Electronics, OHB – Bremen is home to some of the world’s leading aerospace companies. Nowhere else in Germany is the employment density in this sector so high in relation to the population. But Bremen is also known for its coffee, beer and fish. They are the export hits of the food and beverage industry along the Weser. Global brands such as Melitta, Beck’s, Nordsee and Mondelēz International have their headquarters or important production facilities in the Hanseatic city and form the second largest economic sector in the city state after the automotive industry.

Science in Bremen

With the Centre for Marine Environmental Sciences (Marum), the local university has a cluster of excellence. However, non-university institutions are also excellent – such as the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and Germany’s largest marine science institution, the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research. Overall, the number of employees in large research institutions is the highest in Germany in relation to the population.

Souvenirs from Bremen

Are you looking for a piece of Bremen to take away – or to give as a gift? How about a fine wine from the traditional Bremen Ratskeller, which has been home to the finest wines from the 13 German wine-growing regions for six centuries? For chocolate lovers, Hachez chocolate is a must. Those who like it even sweeter will find what they are looking for at the Bremer Bonbon Manufaktur in Böttcherstraße, where handmade delicacies are created according to traditional recipes. And if you are looking for a whole selection of ‘Bremensien’, you will love browsing through the ‘Made in Bremen’ shop – from handicrafts to culinary delights, everything is typically Hanseatic!

Here, for example, you will find the Bremen Town Musicians in every conceivable guise, as well as socks with ‘Moin’ lettering or kale embroidery, genuine Bremen „Rote Grütze“ (red fruit jelly) from Grashoff, Bremer Kluten (a minty, chocolaty sweet) and Münchhausen coffee. And if you fancy a bit of high-proof spirit, you can take home a bottle of Bremer Eiswette Korn or the kale spirit ‘Knall-Kohl’. Prefer something healthy? Bremen start-up ‘Reishunger’ offers a whole host of cleverly put together rice dishes and cooking accessories.
